ŠKODA’s award-winning range has further been bolstered with a flurry of trophies at the annual Diesel Car and Eco Car awards.
Milton Keynes, 10 July 2020 - Driving off with no fewer than five category wins; three models appeared in the overall top 10 list of the best new cars on sale today.
The all-new OCTAVIA’s style, performance and technology proved a winning combination, helping the car to pick up both the Best Medium Car and Best Medium Estate Car titles. Ian Robertson, Editor and Publisher of DieselCar & EcoCar Magazine, commented: “The OCTAVIA has had a complete design overhaul for 2020 and we reckon this could be the best-looking OCTAVIA so far. In both hatchback and estate bodystyles, it has balanced proportions, crisp lines and attractive LED lights that make it every inch the SUPERB’s smaller sibling. It’s very different inside too, where analogue gauges are out, and digital screens are in, all carried out in the classiest way possible. On the road, the OCTAVIA is exceptionally well composed, with great agility and poise, and lots of punch from the super clean twin-dosing 2.0-litre TDI engines.”
ŠKODA’s SUPERB once again retained its titles of Best Large Car and Large Estate Car. The judging panel praised the SUPERB’s exceptional practicality and engine refinement, with Ian Robertson adding: “We know it’s a cliché, but it’s one that is valid as it truly is SUPERB by name, and SUPERB by nature. The large ŠKODA continues to amaze buyers with the quality and space it offers for the money. It’s seriously handsome too, with neat lines and sharp LED exterior lighting inspired by intricately crafted Czech crystal glass. It’s a car that gives you a pat on the back at the pumps, with diesel engines returning around 50mpg.”
Also placing in the top ten and picking up the final accolade was the KODIAQ, which took home the award for Best Large SUV. “Hot on the heels of the SUPERB, here’s more proof that ŠKODA’s biggest cars are a triumph. Refinement and ride comfort are both top notch, while the handling feels impressively surefooted in all conditions.” commented Robertson. “Costing around £35,000, the 2.0-litre diesel engine with four-wheel drive in SE L trim represents startling value for money, with an attractive interior and lots of kit. Crowning the top of the KODIAQ line-up is the thunderous vRS, with 236bhp and 369lb ft torque on tap, yet it still has the ability of carrying seven and can cover the zero to 62mph dash in seven seconds dead.”
In addition to winning five category titles, ŠKODA models also featured strongly in the annual Diesel Car and Eco Car Top 50 - a key list of the very best models on the market. The OCTAVIA finished in fourth position, while the SUPERB and KODIAQ rounded off the top 10 with ninth and tenth position respectively. The KAROQ was also named in the Top 50, highlighting ŠKODA’s strength in the new car market.
