ŠKODA tops the J.D Power Vehicle Dependability Study for second year

13/07/2016
Milton Keynes: It’s official: ŠKODA ranks as the top automotive brand in the UK for vehicle dependability. The Czech manufacturer has recorded back-to-back victories in the J.D. Power UK Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) – with two models topping their sector for quality and reliability.

The study, now in its second year, measured problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of vehicles in the UK after 12-36 months of ownership. The findings were based on responses from more than 13,000 owners of 2013-2015 models.

J.D. Power examined 177 problem symptoms across eight categories: engine and transmission; vehicle exterior; driving experience; features/controls/displays (FCD); audio/communication/entertainment/navigation (ACEN); seats; heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC); and vehicle interior. Overall dependability was determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality.

ŠKODA ranked the highest for vehicle dependability with a score of 66 PP100 – an even better result than the brand recorded in 2015 and 13 points clear of its nearest rival. The overall industry average was 113 PP100.

The 2016 survey also studied vehicle dependability in key sectors and, once again, ŠKODA models were at the top. The Fabia was ranked at the most dependable car in the Small Car category, while the Yeti finished top of the Compact SUV sector. The Octavia also performed well, finishing second in the Compact Car category.

The ŠKODA KODIAQ vRS is the Czech brand’s new, sporty, top-of-the-range model. In a week’s time, the high-performance SUV will celebrate its world premiere at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. The latest addition to the Czech brand’s vRS family combines a generous and flexible space as well as ŠKODA-typical practicality with a sporty interior.

At the 2018 Paris Motor Show, ŠKODA will be presenting itself not just as sporty and sustainable, but also as a mobility services provider. The Czech brand is inviting the show’s visitors to a special digital experience from 2 to 14 October: At the ŠKODA stand in the User Experience corner, they can go through a fictional day as an avatar that they have created themselves and be guided through tailor-made digital offers.

Several accents in gloss black accentuate the dynamic appearance of the new, top-of-the-range SUV. It’s the first time the vRS initials, which are exclusively reserved for ŠKODA’s sportiest models, have been seen on an SUV. The emotive design comes alive thanks to the interplay of elegant lines, sporty contours and the typical robust nature of an SUV. The 240 PS ŠKODA KODIAQ vRS will make its debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October.

Global demand for ŠKODA models continues to rise: In August, the Czech brand delivered 91,800 vehicles to customers, exceeding the previous year's result by 6.6% (August 2017: 86,100 vehicles). ŠKODA achieved particularly high growth rates in Russia (+33.5%) and China (+11.5%). Once again, the company also grew in Europe compared to the same period last year (+6.0%).
