Every year the Tour de France welcomes the world’s finest male cyclists. However, women have not been able to participate in the most famous race in the world since 1989.
As part of the #ThisIsOurTime campaign to promote women’s cycling we again backed a team, this year with 23 riders, from Donnons des elles au vélo (J-1) and the InternationElles. Together, they rode every stage of the Tour a day before the men for gender equality.
During the final eight stages of this year’s edition of the race, thousands of riders lent their support and climbed alongside the team. From 20th-27th July as part of the Climb for #ThisIsOurTime challenge on Strava, more than 40 million metres were climbed by 24,319 riders. This more than doubled our target of 20 million metres, which is the equivalent elevation of 500 Tours.
The Tour might be over for this year, but you can still sign up to Strava Club and tackle a variety of exciting cycling challenges.
