ŠKODA Roadside Assistance - Your pre-winter checklist

With winter upon us, a few tips towards safe driving and car maintenance always come in handy to ensure you’re fully prepared for the months ahead.

  • Check your tyre tread– less than 1.6mm is illegal but the deeper the better for keeping control on snow and ice
  • Fill your washers with ŠKODA screen wash to avoid freezing, taking care to read the instructions on the bottle.
  • Check your oil and water – many winter breakdowns can be avoided by practicing basic car maintenance.
  • Stock your car with a few winter driving essentials. You’ll need: De-icer, Ice scraper, Blanket, Torch Coat and gloves, Boots, Shovel, ŠKODA Roadside Assistance card
  • Make sure you’ve got Škoda Assistance

If your vehicle is less than 3 years old you’re covered - If not please call 0800 158 5007.

Don’t leave home without it - Dos and don’ts for setting out in wintery weather:

Do - Make sure you take a fully charged phone with you, A flask of hot drink, food and water is also a good idea, just in case.

Let people know where you’re heading and when you expect to get there.

De-mist your windows fully before you drive off.

Check you’ve enough fuel for the journey. And be aware that driving in stop/start conditions will use up fuel faster than normal.

Carefully dislodge frozen wipers with warm water or de-icer spray to carefully dislodge them. Don't try to use them to shift snow or ice as this can easily cause the wiper fuse to blow.

And remember – if the forecast or conditions are severe, only drive if the journey is absolutely necessary.

Don’t - Clear your windows with water from the kettle. Sudden temperature changes will weaken and eventually crack your glass. If you must use water rather than a scraper or de-icer spray, only use warm water.

Remove ice and snow from your windscreen. Driving with a small peephole is not only incredibly dangerous – it’s illegal.
