It has come to our attention that some individuals are contacting our customers via convincing looking but fraudulent emails. These emails are often sent to thousands of individuals and will typically encourage victims to send personal information back to them.
Things to look out for
- Does the email address of the sender look like a legitimate email address? Often phishing emails are sent from (or to) free web-based email accounts.
- Phishing emails are usually sent out in bulk and often do not contain your first name or surname.
- Does the communication contain poor grammar and spelling errors? Is it in a style you would normally expect from a legitimate company?
- The perpetrators frequently use mobile or platform telephone numbers beginning with +44(0)70 instead of the official Skoda company numbers.
- There is a request for personal information such as address details, date of birth, passport details, financial details etc.
- Are you being asked for an upfront administrative payment or payment towards costs of delivering a prize? Again, Škoda will never ask for this.
Competition / Lottery Fraud
Please note that we are currently aware of a fraud involving an online lottery. Please note that Škoda UK does not run such a lottery. If you have received an email telling you that you have won a large sum of money in an online prize lottery you should assume that this notification is fraudulent and we strongly recommend that you do not respond to it. Škoda UK will not send you emails asking for personal or financial details.
