Our designers are always thinking about what our customers would like to drive in a few years’ time.
Their best designs are made up as concept cars and unveiled at motor shows, to give a glimpse of the future. Then they continue to develop them until, if successful, they end up in production in some shape or form.
Škoda’s three latest concept cars are the Yeti, Yeti II and the Joyster. Could you see yourself behind the wheel of one of them, one day?
The Yeti is Škoda’s take on the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). It’s designed for the more adventurous among us, who like to go off the beaten track, yet want something more sophisticated than a rugged, all-terrain 4x4. It’s packed full of intelligent solutions and innovations and is incredibly versatile.
The Yeti II caused quite a stir when it was launched at the IAA Motor Show in Frankfurt. Our designers once again surprised the journalists and Joe public, this time with the pick-up version of the Yeti.
What caught their attention was its ingenious hard top/soft top roofing system, which offers three variations on top-down driving. When the front part of the roof is off, the driver and passenger can see skywards. When the rear section only is off, the Yeti II becomes a classic pick-up. And finally, when both sections are off, you get the full buzz of the open air.
The Joyster is a joy to look at, with the gorgeous of a cutting edge coupe. Inside it is equally futuristic with an advanced electronic dashboard covered by stretch neoprene (the stuff wetsuits are made of!) and ambient in-cabin lighting you can change to your favourite colour. Combine this with the practicalities of a Red Bull/electronic equipment storage compartment and an integrated bench seat for two which folds out of the boot and you have an idea of what this car will be all about – pure pleasure.
