The 2011 Tour of Britain saw almost 100 of the world’s top cyclists start the eighth edition of The Tour on Sunday 11th September, in Scotland. The race then took the cyclists on a further seven days of racing, travelling through England’s Northwest, Stoke-on-Trent and the Staffordshire Moorlands, Devon, Somerset and East Anglia, before crossing the finish line in the country’s capital city, London.
The final day of The Tour was different to any other year as it involved closing the streets of London with an individual time trial in the morning before the traditional closing circuit race stage in the afternoon, ensuring the battle for race leader’s IG Markets Gold Jersey went right down to the wire.
